Flavor Profile -
Corn, traditionally used in Bourbons and Tennessee Whiskeys, provides a rich, sweet flavor. Robust flavors of vanilla and maple syrup as well as white sugar and cotton candy can be pulled through. Sweetness can be offset through maturing in oak barrels.
Whiskeys made from barley produce sweet flavors with caramel and brown sugar hints. Often described as having a roasted, nutty, toffee, flavored cereal quality.
Known for its spice, rye gives a whiskey a pepper and cinnamon tone. It is a great additive, to any hobbyist arsenal. The higher the rye content the spicier the whiskey.
